I GAVE Y'ALL A BREAK!
Happy Black History Month!!!!!
...and break time is officially O V E R.
It's time I talk about something I've been meaning to talk to you all about for a while. So when I say break time is over for y'all, I mean, break time is over for me. She's baaaaaaccckkk.
On December 20th, 2017,
my second self-published paperback book was released on Amazon entitled IKIGAI.
Here's the BOOK TRAILER I produced for this gem of a publication. Take a look.
IKIGAI is n o t h i n g like The Words I Didn't Listen To (TWIDLT). TWIDLT is a women's empowerment book and partial journal for young ladies, and grown women, where I urge and encourage them to find all the love they possibly can within themselves before they seek to be sought in a romantic relationship.
IKIGAI ventures to prove that LOVE, as we know it, does not exist. Yes, I, the hopeless romantic, Dominique Wilder, said "Love does not exist."
Here are my points:
Our society, American, English-speaking society, has a misconstrued idea of love and because of this wrong, backwards idea of it, we over-exaggerate it AND miss other values that are more important.
Love, as defined by Merriam-Webster as, "a feeling of attraction" is inadequate, superficial and simply, useless.
The O N L Y true form of love is God's Love. Humans cannot compare to God, and therefore we should stop using this same word to describe our feelings toward one another, because it does not compare, cannot compare and will not ever.
This book is intended to cultivate conversation, therefore... I AM READY FOR ALL FEEDBACK, ARGUMENTS AND DISAGREEMENTS. LOVE IS NONEXISTENT IN HUMAN FORM. MY THESIS IS LOCKED AND LOADED. I AM HERE FOR IT. L E T ' S G E T I T.
I am fully aware that most people would believe that I'm too young to know what I'm talking about, not wise enough to impact the lives of others in a discussion about relationships and love and purpose and that it's highly likely that in 10, 15, or 20 years I'll regret the things I've written. Yeah, most people are wrong.
Let me say it first, before anyone else does...
IKIGAI is a phenomenal piece of literature.
IKIGAI's goal is to prove to women AND MEN that even though love does not have it's place in human society, without it, you still have PURPOSE.
If you go back and re-watch the trailer (a trailer I intentionally created to not make any sense until the book is read) you'll get a glimpse of the inconspicuous nods to values in the book that I have chosen to prove are more important than love. Such as:
Celebration
Authenticity
Self-Discovery
Adventure
Perserverance
Understanding
Teamwork
Balance
and Influence
So the question the trailer asks is, IF WE REMOVED THE WORD LOVE FROM THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, WOULD YOU STILL HAVE PURPOSE? CELEBRATION? AUTHENTICITY? SELF-DISCOVERY? ADVENTURE? PERSEVERANCE? UNDERSTANDING? TEAMWORK? BALANCE? AND INFLUENCE?
The answer is Y E S !
So what's ikigai, you ask? Ikigai is a lovely Japanese word that I've fallen for. Ikigai means, "a reason for being, a reason to wake up in the morning and a deep, often lengthy search of self to bring meaning and satisfaction to life." Love, romantic love, shouldn't bring meaning and satisfaction to your life, fulfilling your God-given purpose should! You care about love. We all care about love. But, you do not need love to create and sustain a prosperous and fulfilling life. Love is not enough to maintain a healthy relationship. We overuse this small word, but never discuss what it means, by definition, in our language and for our culture. I have learned that love isn't even fathomable, realistic or enough. In your study of love, through IKIGAI, through discovering the excitement and purpose in your life, you will find it comes up short. Are you ready?
THEN! COME CELEBRATE MY 25TH BIRTHDAY AND THE RELEASE OF IKIGAI
